Spelling Words for Week of Oct. 15

This week we will be working on homophones, words that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings, to go along with our reading story, Stormalong, a tall taleThese words may require a little extra practice since knowing the different meanings is as important as knowing the different spellings.

wait- I had to wait for the bus.

weight- My cat is gaining weight.

heard- Tom heard the doorbell ring.

herd- A herd of cows ate the grass.

days- There are five days in a school week.

daze- I walked around in a daze.

heel- That shoe hurts my heel.

heal- My broken arm will heal.

peak- He reached the mountain peak after the long day of climbing.

peek- Don’t peek when playing hide and seek!

sent- She sent me an email.

cent- Can you believe the gum just cost one cent?

scent- The skunk had a strong scent.

feet- My  feet ache from walking all day.

feat- Winning the race was a great feat!

vain- The handsome man was very vain.

vane- The weather vane was on top of the barn.

vein- I can see each vein in my arm.

miner- The miner found gold in the old mine.

minor- It was just a minor mistake.
