Letter to Parents

October 8, 2012
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to realize the first six-weeks of school is now over. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching and getting to know your children. It’s a great class! Unfortunately, I have some news to share with you. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and must have surgery as soon as possible. Mrs. Parker has asked Mrs. Holly Jones, an employee of White Oak Intermediate, to substitute in my class while I am recovering. If all goes well, I should be back in 6 – 8 weeks.
Mrs. Jones will come into the class very well qualified. I will be working with her this week, so the transition will be smooth. They should not experience a disruption in their day to day schedule. This is a great team of 4th Grade teachers and they will assist and support Mrs. Jones as she teaches Math, Science and Social Studies. Mrs. Carrington and Mrs. McCurdy will continue to be their Reading and Language Arts teachers daily. They will meet with you for parent conferences in a few weeks.
I will introduce your children to Mrs. Jones, and explain to them why I will be gone for several weeks. In fact, many of them may already know her. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me by phone or email. I will stay in touch with the class as soon as I can during my recovery. I am confident your children will continue to be successful and have a great 4th Grade year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Brenda Lawrence
